New Heights for Book Lovers

There are many reasons to love books.  We can love them for the imaginative worlds they describe, or for the knowledge they impart, or even for the sheer beauty of their language.  But here are three people who show us new ways to appreciate books.

Brian Dettmer is an artist who carves into books to reveal the words and art inside.  The result is stunning.  Click here to see more of Brian Dettmer’s work.

Jessica Drenk also has a novel approach to book art (sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun).  Many of her altered books resemble fossils, shells, and other organic matter.  In addition to books, Drenk also works with coffee filters and toilet paper.  See more by Jessica Drenk on her homepage.  (The “Reading Our Remains” section of her website is where the books are)

Instead of carving into or sculpting books, Paul (aka “peacay” or “pk”) takes existing books, scans their remarkable content into the computer, and highlights them regularly on his blog, BibliOdyssey.
