Remembering Solzhenitsyn

Best known for his books One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (which exposed the Soviet Union’s labour camp system and lead him to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970) and The Gulag Archipelago (which the New York Review of Books calls “The greatest and most powerful single indictment of a political regime ever to be leveled in modern times”), Russian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn passed away this past Sunday, August 3rd.

I found a really good BBC News article remembering Solzhenitsyn and his life. Also, the Library has many books about him, including Alexander Solzhenitsyn : a century in his life by D.M. Thomas.
