I agree, some of my favorite books this year were Mangas:
Nana
Vampire Knight
Ouran High School Host Club
Special A

Great suggestions for teen books (not manga) can be found at teenreads.com. Their 'Ultimate Teen Reads List' has meaningful stories that have never once disappointed me. Most of my favorite reads where from there: 'Pretty Little Liars,' 'Peony in Love,' 'What is the What,' etc...

A blog/entry about teen reads/GNs would be wonderful.

Thanks for your question! I apologize for not mentioning this in my post, but the lists I linked to are meant as resources only, and do not imply that the library owns every book, CD, or DVD on those lists. Sorry for the confusion!

It’s true that we don’t own all of the hundreds of books featured in these lists, and in fact couldn’t afford to acquire all of them. However, we do own a great many, and our librarians use these year-end lists to see what else might have been overlooked.

If you’d like to call our attention to any titles in particular, please go here:

<a href="http://www.dekalblibrary.org/research/email-a-librarian.html" rel="nofollow">
http://www.dekalblibrary.org/research/email-a-librarian.html</a>

From the drop-down menu, choose “I would like to suggest a book/CD/DVD for the library.” You can also fill out a “Suggest a Title” form at any branch library.

Our first step in considering books for purchase is to consult the critical reviews in Booklist, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, and other publications that provide detailed, professionally done book reviews for the public library audience. However, every title recommended by one of our patrons is considered as well, and we buy a number of titles each month that our readers suggest.

Thanks Georgia. Your idea is a good one, although I am not very well versed in graphic novels/manga (I’ve read a few, liked some, but am no expert). But I’ll keep this in mind in case I come across a list like that.

These lists reflected my favorites very well, but many of the bools recommended in your entries are not in the library system. How can one recommend a book to be added to the collection?
How do we know that that book isn't pending or has been recommended many times before?
What is the consideration process? / How do you decide what to get and what to drop?

Great entry!

I suggest doing a blog on good Graphic Novels/Manga for teens. There was not a list for that and it is a very popular trend. It is a good way to be reading a book to relax and not feel like you should be spending the time on work/school.
