What is Your Library Worth to You?

by Nolan R

What do you love best about the Library?  Getting the newest books?  Attending children’s programs?  Socializing at a movie?  Hearing a respected author speak?

In light of a recent opinion article in the AJC on the validity and necessity of public libraries (and their future), I offer a link from the State Library & Archives of Florida.  This personal savings calculator was originally provided by the Massachusetts Library Association and has been adapted for use by numerous library systems.  It’s a simplistic tool and it has its own critics, but it does give you something to think about.

How much would you pay out-of-pocket for your library services?

I, like most librarians, could talk for hours about why libraries are important to me and to the community.  We’d like to hear your opinion, though, so send us your comments on what the Library means to you!
